share a moment during the ceremonial handing-over of the launch of the book ‘Music
Education in the Caribbean and Latin America: A Comprehensive Guide’
Research Week 2017 ended on February 9, and the
Closing Ceremony saw the launch of the book ‘Music Education in the Caribbean
and Latin America: A Comprehensive Guide’.
This book was put together by Professor Raymond Torres-Santos; composer, conductor, pianist and faculty in school of music at California State University, and had a chapter written
by Northern Caribbean University’s former Interim President Dr Marilyn Anderson.
In total, there were 22 contributors to the book from all over Latin American
and Caribbean territories.
In his presentation, Professor Torres- Santos
spoke about the Scholarship of Discovery which is primarily devoted to the
sciences in most cases while the other disciplines are left out. Through
launching this book, he said he wanted to change the mindset and approach of
scholarships through three that were used
to compile the book; Integration, Application and Teaching. He used this to
bring across the point that a book such as the one being launched was put
together by these processes.
