Professor Raymond Torres-Santos and Dr Marilyn Anderson share a moment during the ceremonial handing-over of the launch of the book ‘Music Education in the Caribbean and Latin America: A Comprehensive Guide’

Research Week 2017 ended on February 9, and the Closing Ceremony saw the launch of the book ‘Music Education in the Caribbean and Latin America: A Comprehensive Guide’.  This book was put together by Professor Raymond Torres-Santos; composer, conductor, pianist and faculty in school of music at California State University, and had a chapter written by Northern Caribbean University’s former Interim President Dr Marilyn Anderson. In total, there were 22 contributors to the book from all over Latin American and Caribbean territories.

In his presentation, Professor Torres- Santos spoke about the Scholarship of Discovery which is primarily devoted to the sciences in most cases while the other disciplines are left out. Through launching this book, he said he wanted to change the mindset and approach of scholarships through three  that were used to compile the book; Integration, Application and Teaching. He used this to bring across the point that a book such as the one being launched was put together by these processes.

Following the presentation, in a ceremonial handing-over, between Dr  Anderson and Professor  Torres- Santos, the book was officially launched.
