I had many choices, but I chose NCU; this was the sentiment echoed by some members of the 2012 Graduating Class and family members at the Consecration Service held on August 11, 2012. During the Service, members of the Gradating Class shared their reflections. The Service was one of three events of the Graduation Exercises of the Northern Caribbean University (NCU).

The NCU Gymnatorium came alive when some of the 908 graduands shared their emancipation stories with the congregation. With the dynamic and versatile hosts Vashan Brown and Tamara Bailey, the congregants were in for a treat as they steered the programme in a very professional and competent manner. The graduands were on show as they delivered their stories and sojourn at NCU. One thing that was common about all the stories shared was the fact that when one enters the walls of NCU, he or she will never be the same and as one student so aptly puts it; “like JPS, NCU changes lives with its positive energy.”

Making the decision to be a student of NCU is one of the best decisions that any individual can make. Not only do you get first rate education, a skill, poise, boldness, lifetime friendships among others, but you are spiritually empowered in a Christ-centred environment. According to Wade Wilson, a graduand of the College of Education and Leadership, "NCU unearths latent potential. Before coming to NCU, I was in the abyss of doubt and fear that I would not make it. However, once I touched NCU, I was transformed with optimism. I got far more than I bargained. I was empowered to the point where I felt as if I can take on any challenge which comes my way with the confidence that I can conquer them all with Christ at the centre of my life and in all I do.”

The just under one thousand graduands of the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) Class of 2012 were given their final ‘lecture’ by the dynamic President of the Cayman Islands Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) Pastor Shion O’Connor as he addressed the University’s Baccalaurate service on Saturday August 11, 2012 at the university’s gymnatorium. The receptive graduands and the congregation at large were charged to contribute in a meaningful way to society while caring for the welfare of those whom they will serve. The NCU 2012 graduation which spans three days from Friday August 10 to Sunday August 12 saw just under a thousand graduates leaving the walls of NCU in this Jamaica’s fifth year of political independence.

Pastor O’Connor asserted, “if the government of Jamaica wants to implement plans and policies for the betterment of this country, then NCU would be the perfect place to seek bright minds with bright ideas to steer the country in the way forward.” He continued “NCU with its emphasis on Christ-centered education is poised to offer graduates who can fit in any sphere of life and who will make a difference in their families, communities and the world at large.” They were admonished to keep their eyes fixed on heaven as they seek to be trailblazers since the Kingdom of God is at hand.
