While
the plagues are in full force Pharaoh “repents” and promises to release the
Israelites, but as soon as it eases he turns on his word. Fake repentances and empty promises. That is so much like Satan – the master of
empty promises. If Eve had any idea what
she was “biting off” she would have driven that serpent away. And still, so many in the world today have
sold their souls to the Devil, still in pursuit of his… empty promises.
How
often though, in the heat of a crisis, or even in the height of intense emotion
we make deals and promises that, once the smoke clears, we shamelessly renege
on? We too on the guise of false
repentances do make empty promises. But
the amazing thing is that notwithstanding his many vain utterances, Pharaoh
still received multiple opportunities to make good on his word. Praise the Lord, He is still longsuffering
toward us, and though we have failed miserably in the past, we still have an
opportunity to have experience genuine repentance and yet honour our promises
to Him and to others.

Father
in Heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour we beg you to
search us and know our hearts, try us and know our thoughts. Then perform Your divine surgery and create
in each of us a clean heart and a renewed spirit. May we not become hardened through the
vicissitudes of encounters with Holy Spirit; change our hearts of stone into
ones of flesh. These are Your rich
promises which we claim in the name of Jesus.
Amen.
