The proof of the pudding is in
the eating; the proof of a university’s relevance is the degree to which lives
are positively transformed.
Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) Salem
Runaway Bay Campus (SRBC) is doing its fair share of positively impacting members
of the communities in its environs, by enriching and improving the lives of
many citizens. One way it is doing this
is with its efforts to affirm senior citizens in the Northern region of Jamaica
in an annual Senior Citizens’ Community Guest Day. This year’s Senior Citizen’s Day was observed
on May 29, 2012 and it focused on thanking those who helped chart the path
forward for Jamaica for the past 50 years, in this our year of Jubilee. Over 80 senior citizens enjoyed being treated
to the usual features, inclusive of pedicures, manicures, full body massages,
hair styling, medical check-ups, entertainment, and a host of other
features. All these activities represented
a coalition of various business interests and individuals, working in
partnership with NCU to pamper our deserving senior citizens. NCU values senior
citizens, and appreciates their contributions to the quality of life we all enjoy
today.

Another way that NCU shows its
relevance through several short courses it offers to individuals who are not
keen on doing a degree per se, but who are primarily interested in acquiring
certain skills to either help them on the job or just to fulfil a life
goal. May 29, 2012 was also the day when
43 individuals graduated from several short courses that they had completed at
the SRBC. The courses included Computer
Repairs, Computer Literacy, Supervisory Management, and Jamaican Tax
Calculation.

The Graduation Ceremony was held at the institution’s Salem Runaway Bay Campus.
