Xormis presents, judges wowed at Imagine Cup Finals

Warsaw, Poland - Team Xormis, Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU’s) Microsoft Imagine Cup Team in the Interoperability Award category, presented its software to a panel of judges on Monday, July 5, 2010 during the world finals of the competition in Poland.

“The presentation went very well,” said Kenrie Hylton, Team Xormis’ mentor and Chair of the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at NCU. “The application was novel and was well received by the judges. In addition, the questions posed by the panel were responded to appropriately. The results however will not be announced until Thursday at the World Showcase.”


Members of Team Xormis are Shawn McLean, Dwayne Samuels, Derron Brown and Markel Mairs. The Team’s project is “eXtensible Opportunity and Resource Matching Information System,” - a match maker that couples significant and pervasive problems with the appropriate solution providers by employing multiple technologies to connect people, data, or diverse systems in a new way.


The organizers noted that this year’s competition has “set a new bar” and has produced a host of exceptional projects.

Team Educ8 (Regional Champions in the Software Development Category) demonstrated its application at its booth during the press walk-through of the Imagine Cup showcase. The Team comprises Trevoir Williams, Caray McKenzie, Warren Robinson and Trecia Thompson. The software project for the team is “eSCAPE” (Electronic School Computer Aid for Primary Education), which is designed to teach literacy at the primary school level.


The ‘Imagine Cup’ is a world-wide technology competition created to reward students for their inspirational and technological innovations. The theme of this year’s competition is "Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems".
