On Tuesday January 31, residents of St. Ann who were recently trained in Supervisory Management at the Northern Caribbean University (NCU) Salem Campus, graduated from the programme to much pomp and pageantry at the Salem Seventh-day Adventist Church. The short courses administered by the NCU Salem campus on Sundays, over an eight week period, saw more than 20 persons participating. At the graduation exercise, members of the class expressed delight in not just completing the courses but now that they have acquired new knowledge, they see themselves as now able to effectively change their environment.

Perhaps the most well known and used text in the Bible is John 3:16; this portion of scripture emphasises the reason Christ laid down His life on Calvary for the salvation of the human family. John says that reason is love. “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” It is this same John who helps us to understand why God can only act out of love in 1 John 4: 8 where he points out that God is Love. However, we cannot see God directly so He has painted several portraits of Himself: we see that portrait in the life of His son Christ Jesus, and that is why Christ said, when you see me, you see the Father; we see Him in his creation, that is why the Psalmist David says in Psalm 19 that “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheweth his handywork;” indeed, human beings have also been tasked with that responsibility – to show forth God’s love. This photographic review gives us a glimpse, a portrait of God’s love.

Preparation is in high gear for the launch of the “That the World May Know” programme. Pastor Ted N.C. Wilson, President of the Seventh-day Adventist World Church, will arrive in the Jamaica on Friday, February 3, 2012 to be the main speaker for the Inter-American of Seventh-day Adventists (IAD) launch of this evangelistic initiative, which will be broadcast globally on Saturday, February 4, 2012.

Over 80 persons, mostly teachers and pastors, participated in a Northern Caribbean University (NCU) Training and Consultancy Services Unit (TACSU) training at the East Jamaica Conference Camp Meeting which was held at the Kencot SDA Church in late December 2011. The seminar was held in collaboration with the Education Department of East Jamaica Conference. The main presenter, Dr. Vincent Peterkin, Associate Vice President for Academic Administration at NCU covered the topic, ‘Dynamic School Leadership: School Administration Agenda.’

Dr. Trevor Gardner, newly appointed President of Northern Caribbean University, never fails to dazzle with his magniloquence and humble demeanour. Since his appointment, Dr Gardener has been on the move and has received warm reception from the student body. “The students have been nothing but accepting and welcoming. I have found that they also have very good representation in the United Student Movement. They have been very frank and to the point when it comes to articulating the problems and issues that the student body faces. This in turn helps me to help them better ” says President Gardner.

Touching, accurate, pointed, and sanctified were just some of the words which Evangelist, Claude Edwards used in his final presentation to culminate the Spring Evangelism Weekend here at Northern Caribbean University (NCU) on Monday, January 30. Hearts were touched and many were blessed by the message. Under the theme, “Setting the Standard…Raising the bar,” he impressed the audience with his eloquence. He captivated and held their attention with each word he spoke almost as if he were speaking directly to each member, to each situation, through song and speech.
